The focus certainly shifted as the U.S. has been completely engrossed with the current financial crisis as well as the Presidential Election. A few months back, prior to the Russo-Georgian War, the U.S. was trying to impose additional sactions on Iran for their continued nuclear initiative. Unfortunately, the U.S. failed to receive the buy-in from both Russia and China. Now, the U.S. must pick up where they left off and decide how to proceed.
